  • Slinky Kate - two trips in a row..19/05/18

Another leisurely start yesterday sees us meet at RQ at 0600 right at the top of the (huge) tide.

No messing this week, straight to the hard ground...as there’s virtually nothing on the wrecks yet.

Yet again, the weather gods have been kind to the weekend angler and we were met with a slight rolling sea which was always forecast to drop...and it did 😁

We pottered here and there initially but as we’d hit slack water there was not much doing...one fish went into the box in the first hour and all seemed quiet 🤫

So we headed out a few miles ‘just to see’ but the water was green and there was similarly no action 🎣🤫🌊

...we headed back inshore at this point as by now we were a couple of hours into the ebb so hopefully a bit of movement would bring the fish on.

💥 and it did...back and forth over a couple of favorite marks saw us catch a box full with plenty of the smaller ones put back.

Lovely scrapping codling punching well above their diminutive size 🤓💪👍

Back to the marina for tea and medals (Stella and wash down &#128556 and another successful trip for Team Slinky.

Not sure we’ll get 3 weekends on the bounce as forecast looks windy for the days ahead but both of us content to get the sea miles and fish under our belts again 😊

    Few pics of the day:

Cheers for reading...until the next trip!

You must be feeling your age now lads, 6am. Two weekends in a row, graced with good weather, maybe a third next weekend, fingers crossed. Yes, much more productive with a bit tide pull. Good one lads, keep I'm coming. Nice pics too.

The t-shirt fishing weather looks great and you found the fish after a little searching. Nice pictures as always Tony.
I know the mark well having spent many a happy early season session anchored close to there. I’ve never gone around the back to explore “Norms Hole” though.

Great photos! It looks almost idyllic. It's hard to believe it was St Marys and not the South of France!

I went out from Amble on Saturday but the wind was a lot stronger (and colder) than forecast, and with the big tide it made Cresswell very uncomfortable. Small wonder I was the only boat there to start with. The drift was 1.5 knots when I got there, and with the waves chopping up I beat a retreat to fish closer inshore, along with some lads out on their yaks. Some nice coalies in there, and a bit later when JFK and a few others showed up I went back out. Lot of fish around, but easy to lose gear.

After a couple of hours of being bashed around I went closer in again. Some big launce inshore, which I'd loved to have float-fished for Pollack, but not much chance with such a big tide.

With the tide flooding again, the drift calmed to a sedate 0.3-0.4 knots, and there were still a few fish about. Total for the day was 20 or so codling, a few coalies, a small pollack and some launce.

The water temperature was 9.3, and the water clarity was good, so things are looking up.
