Called a trip report as there isn’t much catching to report but I thought I’d post one as it’s been quiet here recently, despite seeing quite a few boats out over the weekend.
Sunday morning and the sea was stuffed with mini whiting all fighting to savage frozen lug, mackerel and razorfish. I’ve not tried frozen razorfish before, they smelled OK and tasted OK – a bit crunchy as it wasn’t entirely defrosted, still chilly out there. With only four in a packet I’ll try the Chinese supermarket for them next time.
With little wind or tide, I fished some wrecks that are too small to usually be fishable. A single scotchie broke the chain of whiting coming in before the tide turned. After the turn and with a little drift, the fish vanished from the wrecks and there wasn’t much from the hard ground by St Mary’s can either.
As Arthur mentioned, the sea is really clear at the minute, close in and further out. Overall, a slow day’s fishing but it was good to be back out; roll on the summer when we’re all back out there.
