  • Catch report 29/01/18

There's been very few opportunities to wet a line this year but yesterday gave us a window of opportunity so myself, John and Ray took Ray's splendid new Arvor 25 "Tilly H" out for a spin. We left Royal Quays at approximately 12.15pm and headed North into a stiffish NorWesterly before setting up our first drift a few hundred yards off St Mary's. First drop produced a nice keeper for Ray's tea and although the wind was pushing us along we landed fish steadily for the next couple of hours. We landed close to 30 Cod and kept 6 decent keepers to top up our freezers. There was plenty of just legal keepers and lots of undersize Tommy's but it was good fun and great to get out. It was nice to see the sun and just as we were heading home the wind dropped off but by then we'd used up all our bait. We got back to Royal Quays around 4ish, hosed down the boat and headed to the Zetland for a warm up in front of the wood burner stove.

Hi Dave, we've been going stir crazy hanging around the marina waiting for a chance to get out so we jumped at the opportunity even if it was just a few hours. It was really good to feel those bites again and get a few fish on the boat. I've been a different guy today having had my Cod fix but it'll not last long so bring on those Westerlies.

Well done mate. It's reports like this that get us all scanning the weather reports to see if there is a chance for those few occasions when we have the time to get out too. Thanks for sharing and keeping our hopes alive.

Nice one. I think I can speak for all of us that haven't been out this year yet, that I'm a bit jealous.

Hi Boga, a very honest assessment and I know what you mean because as much as I like to read the catch reports there's always part of me wishes it was me. Spring's just around the corner so we're nearly there and with a bit of luck some catch reports from Boga that make me just a bit jealous.
