After our week over on the Mull of Galloway with memories of Tope, Bull Huss and Spurdog fresh in our minds, we drove straight back to Amble on the Saturday morning.
The weather started out flat calm, but that south-easterly soon built up the chop. Still, we headed up to Dunstanburgh where we fished the rips just off the point. There were some nice kelpies to 4lb to be found close in, within 40 feet of the shore. It was a good start.
We then threaded our way back along the coast, stopping off on the reefs just by Craster, fishing the kelp beds closer inshore, then Cullernose, and on to Howick. Fishing was really slow on these neap tides, and although we managed several more nice kelpies of 4lb, that was about it. We tried a couple of drifts in the lee of Coquet Island, but the shorts and T-shirt weather had turned into one of winter jackets and leggings and so we headed in to warm up.
