Fantastic in depth report Chris with some bumper fish. Did you just sleep on the boat or b n b. Are large squid/lug baits the way to go, and do you have to be over rough ground for the cod, and is that north or south out the piers.
      Cheers, Arthur.

David, any 7ft boat rod 20-30lb class will do, as long as you can cast a 6oz breakaway and good bait 30-40 mtrs up tide when at anchor. It is just a way of getting your bait secured on the bottom. There is no mystique about this way of fishing, and no need to buy "up-tiding gear"

Hi Arthur I do stay on the boat and the baits that were doing the trick for the larger fish were full squid with cart. Also I was north of Whitby 1/2 mile of Sandsend cliffs over some rough ground.

Thanks for all your coments lads

Been some cracking fish chris uptiding this winter its great to see quality fish under the cliffs distance means nothing here at whitby steaming over the horizon you are often going over some cracking fishing again last saturday with the water still clear we ended up fishing a wreck just 5 miles off the lads had well over 150 codling between them on the shads a belter of a days shadding for late november you dont need to go over the horizon if you know where to look.
If we are lucky we might get friday or saturday upting should be alive after this northerly.

We got these 3 uptiding one day just before the festival fish this quality fish just under the cliffs 12lb,13lb,14lb great to see more to come.
