  • Drifter Catch Report 15th Aug

We left Royal Quays on "Jules" at 9.am after bacon & eggs courtesy of the splendid galley on Alby's "Octavia". With the wind freshening from the West we headed North to fish the rough ground off Blyth and there were plenty of Cod around although most were under size. The wind was gusting and made it difficult but we persevered with the flowing trace and as we drifted into deeper water we started picking up a better stamp of fish. We kept approximately 16 decent keepers ranging from 3lb to 5lb and returned at least the same amount as our freezers are quite well stocked at this stage in the season. The Westerly was a tad stronger than we would have liked but the fishing's always constant with a Westerly and there was never a time when the fish went "off the boil" which does tends to happen when the wind swings into the East or North.

Well done lads you did well to catch fish in that wind, it was blowing a hooley out there. Forecast doesn't look much better for the coming weekend.

Aye Chris the rough ground has fished very well all season but by all accounts the wreck lads are now starting to see some very good sport (when the wind dies down). The strong winds seem to be a permanent feature which makes wrecking difficult so we are happy to drift the inshore waters. At times we'll be plagued by small Codling but they do go back no probs and by close of play we've usually got a good haul of decent keepers.
