Know all three of them fished with all three and as Shaddy says its Ian Burret and he has done more for our sport than anyone i can think of, i tag skate with him and Dave on the right of the pic every year.

He works hard tagging skate, tope blue shark and working on many other species, him and his son Matt doing a cracking job. Dave showed me that pic awhile back and glad to say the shark went back on.

Conger fishing topic comes up often, in my opinion yes no doubt the odd conger will be on the wrecks but i be shocked if we seen more than 3 caught every year, i mean lets face it whats conger tacktics.....

Big bait flowing trace right on top of the wreck with no drift......sounds like me and 100s of other fishman's method for fishing wrecks at slack water for ling and how many conger get caught each year from our ports...answer this year 1 reported...not having a go at anyone just stating my opinion of conger fishign from our waters.

As for shark fishing, i would love to see more people try for them, if they release them that is but it is hard to get punters to pay out alot of money to not even see a run, bite, fin day after day...I know Dave in that pic has tried from Sunderland many times and tried to get me to fish for them for many years from my boat as we have all the skate gear that is more than a match for a progie.. good luck wth the shark fishing, be great to see floating balloons and a chum trail behind some boats off our coast

I should be fishing with Ian soon but for skate.

Most of the southern boats who actually fish for conger get results when the tide is not slack but actually flowing and anchoring and running baits towards the wreck, not bouncing big leads all over the place.

I have wreck fished for conger in April this year at slack tide up Scotland and landed 4 in no time at all best 25lb, i guess if they on the wrecks we would get them...would be a welcomed species to our waters if they did make the trip our way...the number of dogfish that are turning up our days is unreal, my mate had 2 dogfish and 1 codling from the Walkway last night and you hear of them turning up from all the piers and main marks now.

                One about 8lb

One at 25lb on flowing trace half a mackerel

They probably saw lings. Hard to tell the difference for a diver who only sees the head. Plus everything looks much bigger under water.

Reading your reports i"d fished for congers 20 years ago many ports in the south had good catchers my best is 98lb, skippers then drop anchor some 100yds away from wreck so the the back of the boat is just touching the wreck at the start of the turning tide on a small tide, I"v seen video of the divers reports taken from the wrecks i droped them on to, From 30mts to 86mts taken this year and would say they around 20lb to 100lb videos of these congers going past the divers same size as the diver caught on cam, congers are been caught on the gound well they hunting for food at this time of the year bigger congers wont leave the wreck only when they hunting on the outside of the wreck, The prob"lm up here is nobody will anchor up over the wrecks, and you wont catch conger driffing over wrecks,

Well give it a try you never know may get one or two but its a long shot in my opinion, with 100s of lines in the water with nice juicy mackerel baits 7 days a week for 6 months of the year and only 1 to be landed says it all in my book....i have had them up Scotland on the drift over sand and wrecks so you can catch them with out even targeting them if they are "there", they are a lazy fish but you dont get 100lb by sitting not chasing the odd meal that goes past.

                        Best of luck anyway.
