decided on an early start 5am from h'pool. struggled to find a fuel point open but managed to get into lock at 05.50am. Then the gates were jammed so another 15min wait. Got to the desired mark and first drop my mate pulled in a nice 6-7lb cod, That was it , a few more lost on the way up. we ended up with my mate getting 2 cod and me one Mackie. The sea started to come away and had a really wraggy ride home So the fish are there, but a little hard to catch

Size matters! Well done on the effort.
I made it out on the ebb tide from Amble on Saturday just after noon. Lovely conditions, but the fish were patchy - one a drop then nothing for half an hour kind of thing, and mostly small. I kept 2 but the other 20 odd went back. Good sport on light tackle so it was fun anyway. Chatting to the lads in Double Trouble at the marina and they fished New Biggin and out to the wrecks and all the way along on the morning tide and had 4 keepers between them.
Maybe in another week or so, once the mackerel get in close ?
