  • Slinky Kate - Sunday Aug 19th 2012

With the weather being in command it was a Sunday trip for Slinky
So off we went (Tony and I) 4.30am start with a head out the piers for about 5 ish (just on the top of a big spring tide)

I think today was all about conditions, weather, sunrises and all that ... the fishing was just an added attraction

It's been a dissapointing (or is that just "a difficult" ?) season, and today was no difference. However the harder it gets then the better the spoils as after all it really is a sport for us "private" boaters and not a necessity to achieve.

All in all after a trip of some 30 odd mile around inshore and medium distance wrecks we still filled a box (or almost) and ended up with fish galore for our families.

Best codling was about 4lb and best ling similar but with whiting and mackerel in abundance we shall not go without food.

Highlights of the day were ..... the sky... the sun ..... the whiting ....... a seal .... and a gull (hand fed mackerel)

many thanks to crew for the day Tony ....

A few pics (as ever) ..... with so much more in video if I get the time

    Departure at 5.00am ....

the sky .... superb and ever changing ....

    and again ...

Tony .... what a bonus the sunshine was ....

And do you remember this quote ..... ?

Nice pic's Norman, the sky did look great today with that sun rise through the sea mist and the storm clouds in the distance.

We faired the same, plucked away taken odd fish from here and there (cod and ling) decided to finish up on what i call "all you can eat wreck" you aka Aquastar, as normal packed to the brim with whiting and 2-3lb coalie but no cod at all.

It is a hard year this year but at least the last few trips out have seen a smooth/slight sea so makes just being out nice and fish a bonus.

Not sure what you found but all the big coalie and ling just packed to bursting with 2" herring sprats, maybe thats where all the cod shoals are at...feasting on the herring away from the now 100s of boats fishing the 60 or so wrecks within the 15mile range of the Tyne.

i see the fish catching device needs tweeking to attract the correct species

                    cracking pics norman..

i didn't get out today, but heard that the fishing was steady down here, a bit of an improvement from the last couple of weeks

hopefully the bank holiday weekend will be ok to get out and hunt em...

has the fish catching merry-go-round device been patented or can we all give it a go

Well done finding the fish Norman. It looks like it has been hard work recently while I’ve been away.

Is that the fishery protection boat watching over you in the pic with the coat hanger full of whiting? They’ve been reading your reports.
