I will apologise for the lack of photos on this report but due to the amount of fish there was not much opportunity, well there was but I was to busy catching!
Out of the piers at 13:00 expecting a flat calm sea as forecast to be greeted with a South Easterly chop and snotty sea. We ploughed on and the first few wrecks had a few fish on them.
We picked away covering a fair distance until we hit on with one on fire.
We dropped down an Micky hit into a cracker of about 8 1/2lb and then I got two double headers with fish about 6lb.
Drifting off the wreck we were about to motor back up when huge balls of bait started showing on the sounder. The bottom was alive and everywhere around the wreck up to abut 300 meters away was teeming with fish, not always cod but huge whitings and good coalies.
The fish were spitting out herring sprats and crabs and were well on the feed with fat bellies.
We tried a few more wrecks and marks before returning and heading in, on one drift I had 4 cod and 6 whiting all within 5 bounces of the shad hitting the bottom! Fantastic fishing! The whiting were up to a pound and three quaters today as well.
Here's a picture a one of the well used shads:
The filleting table got a good work out and the last two lean trips prior to this one are just a memory!
Out again at the weekend, can't wait!
Graham.
