  • Fog, frostbite and few fish…The Tom Jones Sun 27 May

Having missed the entire season last year due to work and other issues this was a trip we were determined to get under the belt.

Setting of about 6.45 we’d hoped the fog would lift but it just seemed to get thicker and fleeces were the order of the day…

Spent 4 hrs over the local inshore wrecks and drifting around the yellow can but with little luck. A mixture of lures, shads, pirks, crab, squid and mackerel in various combinations were of little interest to the fish.

Best results were around the wrecks by the yellow can, where the brighter shads seemed to stir some interest from the rather reluctant cod (and ensured we avoided a blank).

Anyway first time I’ve had to rely solely on the plotter for navigation and it was weird to hear and briefly see the ghostly outlines of boats throughout the morning.

Bring on flatter seas and next time out hopfully we’ll catch a tan along with a few more fish!!!

Your right there, the chil factor sets in when it's that foggy. Great invention gps. Pity there wasn't much fish though, like you say, roll on flat seas and light westerly's to keep the fog away.
    P.B. Cod 30lb-11ozs Balcary.
