  • Cod in the Fog

Well managed to get out despite the pea-soup conditions, right old pain but all part and parcel I guess.
Decided on a bit of a change and fished a wreck 3 mile off Whitburn, well its been a wreck but
well broken up now. Marty(crew) and myself never brought any bait at all, decided to go with the shads as they have been fishing really well. From the first drop it was just fish after fish, average size 5/6lb and biggest going 9/10lb. We ended up with 34 cod with anything under 5lb going back and there were a few !!!!!!!
I dont know about you guys but I am on edge all the time with the fog always looking and listening, but hey wait a minute we have AIS and people can see you. This plots all vessels which have it on board on the Maxsea plotter screen, well the ones that are in the VHF ariel range I guess. Chris Church(Fast Castle)a mate of mine was steaming his new boat down to H/pool and picked me up on the AIS, he came across had a chat and a bit fish. The point is he picked me up on his plotter and identified me, so anyone thinking of investing in one go get it.
We lost the fish with the tide so headed back, couple of boats off the piers were struggling to get in with the fog -they tagged along with me and back to the moorings.
All in all another really good day, beer and curry the night and boat maintainance day tomorrow.

            Hi Gary,
Yes another good day, Martys starting to pull his weight now.
I that AIS is a wonderful thing, peace of mind when your offside in the shipping lanes fishing.
The downside is people know where your fishing as well, will have to get the book out
and put it in the stealth/undercover mode Ho!Ho!.
One of the H/pool boats rang me up, he was down Saltburn and he filled up so I
guess theres a bit fish all over.

            Davey...........

what it does AIS if your in a busy area fishing ,shows traffic around you, its shows you who is at anchor ,who is moving at what speed the name of the boat size ect
Dave pleased Marty is pulling his finger out (you have taught him well)there was another lad who used to fish with you a fat lad you never see him now (dont mean tony)
think he was into cage fighting (rabbit cage)
