Up at 4.0am. Not a breath of wind....lovely still morning. Out of the Royal Quays by about 5.45am and fishing at the can on anchor by 6.15am. Loads of fish showing on the sounder, and bites straight away. However most fish were undersize, but eventually much better fish started biting, and caught my best fish today (6lbs cod). Best of all it was caught on a 6 -12lbs very light boat rod with a little ABU 6000 reel. Caught a few other cod around the 3 - 4lbs mark, but as usual bites stopped once the tide stopped running. I hoped for the sport to pick up once the tide started ebbing hard. Unfortunately it didn't, so I upped anchor and had a few drifts around the general area, and picked up a few more cod (decent stamp of fish from about 3lbs to 5lbs). Used bait all the time with raw prawn on a single muppet on a long flowing trace probably the best bait today, although rag and mussel also good.
Excellent trip out for a change. Lovely weather. Sea a bit 'lumpy' but quite smooth, so no problems as my boat is only 16 ft. Bumped into "Caman" (well didn't exactly bump into him) Hi mate nice to meet you. Hope you enjoyed your day as much as I did.
