  • Ali-Cat, Hartlepool. 12th May 2012

Arrived bright and early for my first trip on Ali-Cat.
Famous was also out today with little Dave Sabey at the helm and a full boat of our Polish fishermen.
Shaun arrived at the Marina and we both made our way to a crowded walkway.

We left on high water into a somewhat lumpy rolling sea, forecast for wind to die off during the day (which it did) producing good fishing conditions albeit a little late.

I digress, off to the wrecks we went and after a couple of rapid drifts, Shaun took the first fish, a nice clean fresh run fat Cod to about 7lb on the magical Rhubarb and Custard shad.

(The sea conditions behind Shaun show how big the swell was)
Ho-Ho we thought, here we go, alas it was not to be, we were drifting that bit too fast to stay on the wrecks and only a small Pollock and a couple of Codling on the next few drifts, so Dave took us off to the rough ground.

Anyway, a change of coloured shad to Green Stripy Tiger produced 4 fish on the belt for me to best fish about 6lb, and a returned smaller fish.
I had the esteemed pleasure of fishing next to the terrible twins, Dave and John, the banter was as usual, Brilliant to say the least, certainly makes up on slow days.
John took a few smaller fish today but managed a nice Cod to about 7lb for his tea.
Dave in the meantime brought up 3 on the belt all good fish to about 7lb.
A change of colour shad again to a Red Head produced another 3 fish for me, 3-4lbers this time,
A small number of Codling and a few small Ling were coming onboard around the deck, but with 5 down with the dreaded Mal de Mer , the fish count was down.
Shaun continued throughout the day using a mixture of bait and shads, but finished with his decent fish.
Very strange start to season, the weather against us, lets just hope again for some settled weather.
Finished with 8 decent fish well on the way to restocking the freezer, fingers crossed for next time.

We returned to the Marina around low water with “Famous” behind us showing off the 23lb+ Cod caught (Photos will follow) and to the both Skippers amazement, a Yacht had decided to anchor in the channel, we scraped through (just) but I know what a few people wanted to do to Sailor Sam (Not Printable) on this site.
