Set off from Cullercoats harbour 7-30am just after high tide, into a nice calm sea at last. Headed to the hard ground off Whitley and dropped two lug baited hooks on the drift, as there was very little tide.
Nice bite almost straight away, struck, ping, the 50lb braid snapped on one of the rod rings. A quick check revealed a shattered ceramic insett ring, bu++er, that felt like a nice fish. Changed rods and tackled up again, and was soon into another similar sized fish which turned out to be a cod of about 3-1/2lb.
Nothing much after that, so headed out to a wreck, again, no tide pull, with the wreck showing on the screen for over 7 mins, and no fish, other than a pouting.
Headed back to the can area where the tide was just starting to ebb, so put the anchor down, and started picking up fish all between 2-1/2----to 3-1/2lb
Came back in at 1pm with 8 keepers. Would think if the sea would stay settled, the fish would be there in numbers, but hey, what a lovely morning it was out there with a few fish to boot. Happy days.
Couple of pics for yas.
