  • Wasabi catch report -story of 2 days-

We all know the story of what a difference one day can make

Thursday we have been out early morning and it was lovely calm. We first came into a group of dolphins who came so close to us, we could have touched them. I took some nice videos, but the reality was even nicer. Dolphins at sea still give me goosebumps.

... I love those encounters. ...hope the video works...

The fishing on the other hand was incredibly bad. The drifts were erratic and awful and some weird currents and undercurrents swang our tackle all over the place. We tried really hard and motored 20 nautical miles and fished 6 different wrecks....result ONE cod and some embarrassing whitings, poutings and coalies
at least mackies were there to remind us, we are fishing!

I started to regret that I tempted faith with recently taking bananas and ladies on board for fishing!!

Last stop Snowgoose Wreck, which is the cafe in Sunderland ...but to put insult to injury, bad rain started and we arrived at the Snowgoose looking like drowned rats....
A bad day fishing is better than a good day working....wasnt sure yesterday and went to work!!

When checking the forecast on Friday (at work!!) I changed my mind and gave Ash a ring....he agreed that we should change from work to fishing....

Out at 6 and straight to a wreck...one of them that produced f....k nothing the day before.

James on his Seas The Days was joining us soon.

Needless to say that first drift I had a nice pollack

And despite the tides and drifts still being not ideal and somewhat still awkward, we carried on catching very steadily and good sizes as well

Soon we had cod, ling, pollack, coalie, mackies...you name it in the buckets. James also had a permanent smile in his face and enjoyed the last hours of daylight at the end of an exhausting week!

spot the calm sea...but also spot that there is a ground swell and that it is getting dark....

so we had a good collection of fish in the bucket....but a good 7 nautical mile run home in the dark in lumpy sea ahead of us.....crazy guys we are sometimes

I did worst today...the curse of the bananas still around?...but had 3 fish...2 pollack and a nice 7lb cod...not too bad for an evening
James had good cod of up to 9lb

....but yet again, Ash was the man for the big ones!!

a nice short and fat 17lb ling

Good fishing Norbert, well done for the catch and the report - it's all gone a bit quiet on here. Perhaps a lot of people are on their holidays, or out the water for the routine painting and polishing

We saw the dolphins last Friday when we went down to see the airshow and the fireworks. The boat crews seemed more interested in the dolphins than the air display.
