  • Lazy Daze catch report july 6th

Again, with another good forecast, headed out to the wrecks within 1 mile of the Tyne. Started off catching some mackerel again, then bait fishing the wrecks. Was just out on my own this time. Things were a bit slower than Monday, but eventually connecting with a few hard fighting cod up to about 6lb.

Kept moving from wreck to wreck, most of them produced a couple of fish.

What a beautiful day it was out there. Soon it was time to head back in, so headed to Tynemouth hard ground close in, chucked the anchor out, put a couple of baits down, and proceeded to fillet the fish, but never really got started as the rod started banging over, again with really hard fighting fish.

So to sum up........It's great being retired

Good report mate and well done . Quick question , do you take any special precautions going out solo ?

Well, appart from vhf radio, mobile phone, life jacket, auxhilery outboard engine, and 50 years of boat fishing, oh, and flares
There is more I could do, like letting the coastguard know where i'm fishing etc, phone someone every hour at given times etc. Just never become complacent, think about your every move, keep an eye on the weather etc.

Yeah got all that , I will be retired soon too and can normally get crew but not always . I was thinking of a waterproof VHF to carry on person in the event of ending in drink . Do a lot of risk assessments and bit paranoid I suppose .

Nice one Arthur, the wrecks in that area are cracking at times, we enjoy watching most of the boats steam past them and head for the horizon.
            Cheers, Keith.

I know where your coming from Dave, but if you think of all the scarey senarious, you'd probably sell the boat, lol.
one other thing safty wise, I have a 3 step hook ladder for boarding when launching from the beach, well worth putting that in place, just in case.

Your right Keith, and they certainly give a good account of themselves in 60 odd ft of water.
