  • Slinky Kate 07/05/16 Finally...

Can't quite believe it's May and this is the first report of the year

Anywho, t'was a 4am meet up at RQ that saw Team Slinky take a gamble and head out in less than favourable conditions...

    It was cold

    It was dark

    It was lumpy

    And it was foggy

A very cautious crawl up the Tyne saw us nearly turn round at the Pier ends - a naughty little chop on the water caused by the North Easterly aspect that has been forecast all week

However we saw lights in the distance of like minded souls so we took a punt and poked Slinkys nose out into the North Sea

Not going to lie it was pretty snotty and we were never going to go any further than that

    We didn't need to anyway

In the short few hours that followed we picked up fish here and there and by the time we called it quits we had a haul of fish that frankly surpassed expectations

Cheers to Norman for the trip and it was great to get the first one under our belts - not least to ensure that Slinky was in full operational order after a long hard winter.

Great report Tony, we were against the same conditions, but still we managed to extract a few keepers. Bert being Bert, wouldn't give up, and Keith ....well he just plugs away till the box gets full.
Thank you and Norman for the breakfasts

Last year was way worse to start.

My first respectable catching day 2015 was in well into June (because of algae bloom and weather)

neither in 2014 nor 2015 did I fish the spring cod run like we already do now since weeks...even the wrecks produce since weeks.

          Good season ahead...no doubt

.....and that's the new moorings that only leave a puddle at low water lol.

                          Cheers, Keith.
