  • Kayak 18/8/11

Had my first fishing session in the kayak done plenty of paddling and self rescues but this was the maiden voyage in search of fish !
After parking up by Longhoughton beach it was time to set up

We headed out slowly and venturing further out bit by bit weather was ok but still a bit of a roll on. We got out to around the mile mark and used the crab pot markers to keep us right.

We were into fish once got to the mile mark 7 macky 4 pollock around the pound mark and a codling around a pound as well. Think if we had got to this mark earlier we would have had more. We caught them in the last hour but enjoyed the paddle about and we took it easy the first time fishing. Me mate was out in his to so safety in numbers. Including the seal that a bit un nerving when your so close to the water.

Had a good day and don't regret selling the boat up to now. Much easier to get out especialy on my own and cheaper.

    My macky

    Me mates

    Kayaking it the future !!!!!!

Ha ha! if a seal un nerves you , wait till a couple of dolphins pay you a visit , first time they came to see me in my 165 I thought it was great till they started rubbing along the side of the boat , then I wasn't so sure if I liked it Looks like great fun George , but I don't think it would be for me , I'm too much of scaredy cat to go to sea in a canoe
Happy hunting in it , but keep safe mate

Yeah had the dolphins and seals around the boat before, had about 7 surround the boat once. Thinks its been so close and having stuff swimming at your feet.

Always keep it safe mate the sea is very unforgiving. Practiced a few re entries in the kayak and when the cold hits you its frightening but you soon warm up with wetsuit and that. Hate to think what is like in jeans and t shirt for any length of time.
