  • Jean K: Whitby

Mr Viking and Codboyroy hit Whitby in the hope of cod galore.
We've not fished together for about 5 yrs so this was a chance to catch up on old times and share new ideas.

Roy taught me all I know about boat fishing and also many other types of fishing to, he knows his stuff!

The Jean K was the boat today which is probably the cheapest boat out of all of Whitby and probably the reason why we picked it, being skinflints and all. We fished the odd wreck and ground up to 5 miles off, picking up a steady flow of codling to 5lb, along with ling to the same size. Shads fished well again today for both of us and we easily took at least 28 nice codling between us with the odd ling and pollack to! Most fish we put back.

Cod Rogers with a feisty one.

These fish don't half put up a scrap on light gear. Codboy into another one!

Not monsters but great sport all the same.

Codboy pulls in a tiddler, lol.

Use the force great teacher and cod shall be yours.

To be honest we both ended up with roughly the same stamp and score of fish with Roy doing the filleting as butcher Rogers shouldn't be let anywhere near any kind of sharp instrument. (I always do my best to get out of this bit, lol)

And what about this for a haddock?...an outstanding 4lb specimen caught by an angler onboard who wished to remain anonymous.

Quite a few haddock came on board between 2lb to 4lb, mainly caught on mackeral baited hokkais. What cracking fish.

Don't hold it by the head, please, don't hold it by the head, did he listen..no,no,no!

The one that got away, lol.

So after a great day afloat it was all too soon time to return to port, gutted as I'd happily have stayed out cod bashing until it got dark.

A fantastic day in great company, nice one.
