Well, a different day today ... not for reasons of fishing but for the hours of fishing
Up and out weather watching at 4.30am this morning with a trip to tynemouth... ohhh it was not good, wipers on all the way there, a little easterly blowing and the sound of surf with as far as I could see breakers in on the rocks, not that I could see far at 4.30am but it was enough to cancel the trip ...... since Tone has been working away all week I thought it best to call him early and let him know of the cancellation ....... (back to bed)
That was it, back home , back to bed, and sleep until a reasonable time of 8.00am ...... by which time ....sh1t, it was bright, slight west breeze no rain ....... ooooops. so after a quick change of clothes and another trip back to Tynemouth a looksee to find the breakers had all but gone I made the reverse call ... it was back on ........ (sorry Tony and Lisa I mean Mr and Mrs Wallsendo )
This saw myself and Tone leaving the marina at an extrodinary late time of 8.30am and in the knowledge Tony had to be back early for a family function .......
To be honest it was a great day out , relaxing and not tiring as usual as we decided early on to limit the day to about 4 hours.
We went straight out to clear the dirty flood water and met up with bert and crew about 4 - 5 mile out, they were more or less on their way back having had an early (and I take it very bumpy) start.
Tony was into his first codling at approx 30 seconds with a hokkai'd pirk then into his second soon after on a custard shad.
We had a leisurly few hours only visiting 3 wrecks but once again shads did the biz giving us a dozen or so fish to take back with several others returned.
Points of note today
spotted a dolphin
spotted a sharks fin ... until we got close and we realised how a sharks fin and the corner of a plastic box look very alike
didnt catch a single mackerel (mind you had shads on line most of the time)
caught on all sorts of shads, no specific colour
didn't catch ANY whiting which were so prevalent the week previous ...
Left to head back at about 12.30pm which was more or less our alloted 4 hours , both fresh and ready to enjoy the rest of the day , maybe there is a time to NOT be out at 4.00am sometimes
due to a technical hitch with the camera the pictures are somewhat limited today, however ..... (we'll remember eventually which is the on switch ... ! )
leisurely fishing .....
Tony with a "poor cod" on a shad almost the same size .....
codling codling
And the same for Tone
And theres more ....
and some a little bigger
Not the biggest of fish today but all clean and fit for the table .....
cheers all
