  • Amble 4th Aug

A day off work and a half decent forecast meant I'd have a try in the little boat (Bold Columbus, Bold Endeavour's little sister!).Set out at 5am from the marina heading south on a mammoth 1 hour steam at 6 knots in the fog - thank god for gps. Put the trolling gear on and had quite a good day weaving among the pots and the peaks.Coalies proved a problem at times coming up three at a time on 8/0 and 10/0 hooks but I ended up catching 36 pollack up to 6/7lb but no monsters this time. A plus was picking up a nice 5lb cod, they can shift when they want to, well 3.1/2 knots.Kept a couple for the boss before heading home, hitting the harbour an hour before low water on a big tide, just got in but there was inches in it near the block house and I only draw 18 inches. Apologies for no pics but it's a bit difficult when you go solo.

36 POLLACK!!!!!! sounds to me like you had an otter board or a paravane out which is hardly sporting and nothing to brag about. No wonder the pollack are in short supply this season.Did you realy put most of them back or did you sell them through a commercial boat i wonder ? If your going to catch fish and brag about it at least do it in sporting manner like the rest of us, with a rod and reel

Got bored to tears half way through reading that , decided to end it all , went to the garage to get a stanley knife and cut my wrists but my garage is in a right oldmess , tools and stuff lying all over the place , couldn't find the damn thing , even though I have about half a dozen of them , strange innit , how the one thing you need is always the one thing you can't bloody find? Ayway , started shifting stuff around looking for the knife , found all kinds of things that I thought were lost or had been stolen , I was trying to strim round the edges of the lawn a couple of weeks ago , ran out of strimmer wire , couldn't find it anywhere , guess what? I found it in the garage whilst I was looking for the stanley knife , abloodymazin innit? Got the strimmer down of the shelf , it's a high shelf so I had to use a set of step ladders , guess what though ...... couldn't find the step ladders , then I remembered I had put them in the garden shed , so had to go out in the rain and get them out the shed , while I was in there though I noticed a tool tray with a load of hand tools , you've guessed it haven't you???? , Nah! I had every tool out of that bloody box and there was no stanley knife in there either , I did find the spark plug spanner in there for the strimmer though , which is just as well because when I eventually got back to the garage and used the steps that were down in the garden shed to get the strimmer down off the high shelf to put the new strimmer wire in I thought I might as well start it up , but it hadn't been started for a while and didn't want to start so I needed the spark plug spanner to take the plug out and clean it , put a drop of petrol in the chamber before replacing the plug and away she went , jobs a goodun , by the time I had started the strimmer it was far too wet to do any strimming so I put it back up on the high shelf and put the spark plug spanner in a safe place so that I would know where it is when it's dry enough to strim the grass and the strimmer won't start , of course by that time I'll have forgotten where the safe place is and I won't be able to find it . ............................... What was I saying ???? .............. Oh yes , the stanley knife , couldn't find it , wrists are still intact so I can reply to your ridiculous post , what a prick , you come on here in 2009 and have a go at me for writing a catch report which bored you , then you vanish for two years before coming back to post another heap of crap about another catch report , no doubt we'll hear from you again in 2013 ? if the world hasn't ended in 2012 like some say it will , actually , quite a lot say it will ,not that I believe it myself , I just bought a new boat , not much point in that if I thought the world was going to end next year is there? Mind you the way the world is going with countries going bankrupt and the USA having it's credit rating downrated for the first time in it's history , riots in Greece , unemployment all over the place massive national debts , China owning best part of Africa and all the precious metal mines whivha re needed to build computers and such like , I might be wrong , i which case maybe I should really try and get out fishing a bit more , not possible , I fish every opportunity I get , maybe I should justget out a bit more ?? Yeah! that's an idea , the I wouldn't be sitting in front of a computer reading crap . Have a good day.

Amble Cols post said he kept a couple,is there any reason to think otherwise?

based on Amble Cols past reports,(slightly more than 3 in two years) a couple is what would have been kept.

i do hope by the time you get to 10 posts(around 2015 at present rate of progress) you find something positive and sensible to post about.

IN REPLY TO OLDESSOX. JUST ANOTHER LONGWINDED AND UNFUNNY TALE ABOUT SOME GRUDGE YOU HOLD AGAINST ME. SOUNDS A BIT PERSONAL. WHY NOT STICK TO THE POINT I MADE REGARDING THE MASSACRE OF FISH CAUGHT IN A COMMERSIAL MANNER, AND THEN BRAGGED ABOUT ON A PAGE DIDICATED TO SPORT FISHING. OR DO YOU CONDONE IT?:

Of course it's personal , the only other post you've ever made on here was to say my catch report when I caught my first ever double and personal best cod , which I was very excited about by the way ,was boring , now two years later you come on and slate somebody for catching pollock by trolling , which is done with a rod and reel so how is that commercial? Do you actually fish? Pollock usually go back no bother , Col says he took a couple , where's the "massacre of fish" ? Tell us who you are , where you fish from , if you've ever actually held a rod that is , and about your personal conservation policy and maybe you will get taken more seriously , otherwise your posts are a waste of time .

Amazing how a thread can change from a piece of informative reading into a heated debate .

Cols trolling is done with a rod and reel, and he mentions using a spinning rod, so intentions are good, and disputing the fact that he returned fish is basically calling him a liar . OUT OF ORDER...

Many forms of fishing abroad, are done by trolling, Marlin, Tuna etc etc and are all done sportingly, so surely trolling in the North Sea with a rod and line is acceptable as a sport.....I'm gonna try it anyway....

Think you'll have to change your name to Ivanothertoofmissing if you meet Col and Ray..

Ivatoofmissing - clearly the pollock aren't in short supply if Col can catch 36 in one session. It takes a lot of skill to fish the way he does, I have seen it first hand.

Colin's post highlights in my opinion the only downside of this forum. A member who chooses not to have an avatar, post catch reports or offer any helpful information and chat, the whole point of a forum. Instead they choose to drop in snide comments without having the balls to say who they really are! All smiles to your face as you have probably met them but daggers in your back. Fair one if you don't agree and active discussion is what a forum is about, all open as everyone knows who everyone is with a name and face.

The enjoyment I get out of posting/reading catch reports and having a good crack over Boat angling, boats, shore angling and Game on here is great and only spoiled by people like the aforementioned.

Don't let tits like that put you off posting Colin! I wouldn't! See you for the start of the winter league mate, 6 metre swells and engines blowing up permitting!
