  • Slinky Kate 31st July (Sunday)

Out with Tone again this morning at 4.00am ... after watching the weather reports dissintegrate before our eyes it was a real question as to whether we would make it out today ........

Out the marina, fuelled up and heading between the piers for about 4.30am ... after being unable to get out for a few weeks you suddenly realize how fast the mornings are cutting in in July, borne out by the fact we could hardly see before 4.30am and the sun didnt rise till something like 5.15am .... (and it was cold)

Anyway as we hit the pier bar we could see it was going to be one of those rough days and almost expected a bit of Huey to turn up and support us (but he didn't )

Straight off to 5 mile wrecks as the forcast was at its worst early on and was set to improve somewhat a little later.

Good to see still lots of mackerel around and as Tony sent his first hokkais down in search of them he had stringed at about 12 ft deep ... whooo hooo lots a bait

As I eagerly filleted and stripped the first tony sent his line down again but missed the mackerel completely only to be rewarded with his first codling of the day at precisley 4.57am ...

I tried muppets for all of about 5 mins but couldnt contain myself any longer and changed to the now normal for us shads ..... A white one in fact. Instant hook up and timed by Tony as in the pic below at 5.21am
this certainly looked a good day.

We continued picking away but not all were keepers and so had to be returned so we decided to "Move on" to deeper water stopping off on the way at a little favourite to give it a go ...... bullseye yet again and all on shads (everything else at this point had been ditched but for shads).

Still looking for bigger fish and with Tony having a double ling in mind we moved even further out around the 10 mile mark.

I held in with famiar shads whilst Tone went for an enormouse mackerel flapper ....... in search of mister double.

Time and Time again he claimed a hook up only to find it escaped on the retrieve, however on inspection of the bait it was evident that the fish taking the bait was biting at the flapper but not as far up as the hook. Problem solved shorten the bait and ensure the hook is a distance away for the end to be set in the mouth ....... crikey, it worked and rewarded Tony with a decent ling as below.

Off further now to 12-14 mile wrecks in search of the biggies ..... unfortunately not a bite out there .....

Never mind we decided to come back in a little and fish some repeat wrecks to "top up" our fish boxes .....................

More of this to follow when time is at hand ........

However a few pics as usual of the day ..........

Sunrise as ever ... it's getting later these days, must get a move on and catch more fish before the season draws in .......

    Nice codling for Tone ...

It dont really get any better than this ......

Ling a ling made to measure ....

An early cod .... timed ...

and another for tone in the "I can even catch with a lead weight standing on my head" mode ...

    and another for myself ......

as said more to follow when I can get the time to type it up .......

Nice to get a report in Noman with a few fish to boot. Yeh, i've noticed the darker mornings and evenings cutting in. The weather man said it's gonna get warmer and humid this week, so hopefully things will settle down and normal service will be resumed. Waiting for Slinky report 2.
