  • very hard work at amble

with my brother in law (mel the fat blacksmith) and my boss on board i hope for a day at least equal to that on wed 27

not a flaming hope dirty water, flaming horrible northerly swell made the whole business uncomfortable and hard work.not forgetting a drift of 1.7 knots to put the tin hat on the whole show.
a combination of offshore ground and wrecks produced mackeral in great numbers, some nice plump coalies(£5.60 a kilo),but dem cods just didna want to play, well not in the way we are used to
a few kind donations from the cod god meant at least all went home with a cod or three and a smiley face
best fish came in at 5.8 lbs
highlight of the day was mel getting a cod a coley and a mackarel on the one trace
rippers caught nowt, prawn rag and mackeral on whatever you had did their bit

shads too took a couple of fish

many more days like this i may have to consider early retirement and hand over to the apprentice

I had a look out today , it was dire , I had a few coalie and a bunch of joey mackerel , first time I've caught joeys, and came back in sharpish
That was a seasick swell today , I wasn't sick , but I felt the stirrings in my stomach . the drift was far too fast the swell was far too uncomfortable (the boat in front of me turned back at the piers when he seen the swells coming in ) and the water was far too murky.
I'll give it a couple days and have another go
