  • Tina Dawn Whitby 17/07/2011

After an interesting start to the day, it turned out to be superb, although the fishing was crap.

Drove from Stockton to Whitby after two of us originally confirming the night before the trip was still on for 7.00. we found out the boat wasnt were we thought it was so had to walk across Whitby with all the gear.. nuggets.

Anyhow got a smashing cup of tea and bacon butty and headed off to stand by the boat.. Mike Bess - Lone Shark

Skipper didnt turn up. He wasnt answering his phone to us or his Mate from the On Tow.. He had been seen up at the tackle shop, obviously just changed his mind about going out..

Saviour of the day, Les Wale from the Tina Dawn.. Ill take you out lads, its a bit rough though wont get far... We didnt care just wanted to be out..!!
There were two boat Virgins out so despearte to fish.

We caught a few cod caught largest only 7lb, few ling nothing towards double figures and the expected Whiting and Mackerel. Loads of throw backs..

One fo teh Virgins, Scottish and taking some stick from the lads, finally got his first Codling.. Taking the Micheal we told him it were undersized, pity etc.. before we could stop him hed thrown it back. Thought he was gonna go in after it.. lol

It was rough, windy, ****ed down and the fishing wasnt up to much. However best trip out on the boat this year.

One of the old hats, off to Norway in September got sea sick to the point there was nowt left. He just ended up making Seal mating calls. Whilst chucking up pulled in three Codling and the next cast a 7lb cod.. who says ground bait doesnt work in the sea???

We now have our celebration for catching, Rex might kiss the fish and release.. we despatch and then slap Chris round the face with it. he doesnt like it much..

One of the virgins hooked a Wale... yes they hooked the skipper.. he was a big bugger as well, good job he was in a good mood..

we all realised our waterproofs worked except for when it properly rained
Apart from Chris who looked like a telly tubby but ended up dry at the end, well until his brother threw him in the drink for boasting.. (That bit was wishful thinking!!)

The two virgins, fully pumped up ready for the next trip.. Thats their bank accounts getting emptied..

Overall, superb crack and thanks to Les for saving the day. will book with him again. plenty of room on the boat, even benches to sit down on (believe me we needed to with those swells..) hes a good laugh and generally a very helpful skipper.. Thanks Les...

I agree LingKing. He used to work with the skipper of the On Tow and the Skipper of the Tina Dawn knew him. Said "hed had a couple of problems over the last year of so, but no excuse for leaving us stood by the boat".
If its not safe I would rather they told us like and go home. He just didnt turn up. They had also spoken to him at 6.00 and had seen him in Whitby with his back pack.. Really strange...

I still think it worked out for the best with us, much bigger boat and the Skipper was a right laugh.

cant wait for the next trip..

skipper never turned up but if you had cancelled you would have still have to have paid .so surely wen shoe on other foot he should have to do same regardless of yous getting on nother boat by stroke luck .you might get cheque through post from him for fuel bait etc hope you do .
