after 3 cancelled trips in a row for me i was looking at my 4th until i got the text saying we were giving it a go. the forcast didn't look good at all but i just wanted to get out.
the weather was the worst ive had on the boat, we got soaked. it rained nearly all day and it was heavy at times.
we were heading out the piers by 7 and once we hit the bar i nearly had to change my boxers when i seen the swell but it wasn't as bad once we got further out.
first wreck we tried had nothing on it but i did get a take on my white shad but it got away.
we steamed to another wreck nearby and as soon as the three of us dropped down bang a codling for each of us.
we had a good few drifts on this wreck and we took a few fish, i got 5 all on white shads.
we then headed further out and there was a canny swell coming from the south, here's a video (click on it to watch it).
on the way out richy was trying to make some food but there was a problem with the tin opener lol
we hit a few more wrecks about the 8 mile mark and one of them decided it liked my pirks and shads, taking 5 sets on 5 drifts. after only taking the odd fish richy decided we were going to hit a 14 mile wreck.
another video of the sea here, just a bit rough and there's some big swells. (click on it to watch it)
we got a couple of codling straight away, its the first time ive had to pull a fish up about 260ft, hard work. then it went dead yet the fishfinder was beeping every few seconds, so we tried shads, pirks just about everything until richy said i might put some bait down so i done the same as i thought "ling" so my full mackeral fillet went down on a flowing trace and after about a minute this came up.
i didn't weigh it but richy said about 7lb and it was the only ling of the day.
so it was a hard day because of the weather but at least some fish showed.
it was that wet i had a pool in one of my pockets, it was only the pocket that had my phone in it, that was cream crackered but once i got home i put it in a sock on the radiator and its fine now.
thanks to richy for another day on stingray.
