  • Growler 11th of July 2011

    Well another silly o clock start was called for due to the forecast in the afternoon and Micky having to go to graft as well. The alarm went off at 02:15 and was not warmly received! Up to the marina and off for half three to pastures new-ish! We thought we hadn't fished the wrecks before but when we got there we had! Doh! The benefits of keeping a log this season are really starting to pay off! Or will next season! ( Royal Quays move depending!)
    The first three wrecks were barren! No fish at all and a cracking drift speed so we pushed on to number four. I must admit I was tempted to go to a group that have been consistent but I was keep getting told off Micky not to panic or flap!
    Anyway the fourth wreck was stuffed with all kinds of species, coalfish, pollack, mackeral and cod. I got these two good ones;

    The fishing was fantastic and kept going for ages. We chose to try another couple of wrecks on the way home and on one of them the fish were unbelievable on it. No big cod but we have never had fishing so good. The longest it took ( We timed it!) after hitting bottom and bouncing the shad was 12 seconds before you had a fish! It was slack water so we were virtually stationary over it. I lost count of how many fish we caught and thats the reason for the lack of photos on this post as well, the fishing was on fire! We only kept eight of the deeper hooked cod and all other fish went back to grow to 15lb!
    We had a quick go for plaice on the way in whilst doing the filleting but didn't get a nibble, I would love to get a good sized one but they seem hard to come by unless you fish of south shields pier!
    I might be able to sneak in a quick session before the off but I doubt it!
    Looking forward to all your catch reports when I get away back to graft! Good luck everyone!
    P.S. Leave a 15lb'er for me whan I get back late August!

    Graham.

        Did you head "norf" or "souf" ? Either way you had a belter time by the sounds of it , it's been like that wherever I've gone most of this season , either nothing at all or more fish than you can chuck a stick at .
        Can't find them 15 lbers anywhere at all though , maybe they'll come out to play when you are away .
        Hope you manage another sortie before you have to go , but either way , still time to catch that biggie when you get back

                  Lovely stamp of fish Graham, though it's enjoyable hard graft when they're coming in thick and fast. You must be chomping at the bit when your away working. Hope your 15lber is waiting all fattened up by August.

                      I think the travel dept have been on the lash! I am traveling to Cape Town tomorrow to join the ship, a direct flight from London of 12.5 hours! But no it is ;

                      Newcastle to Dusseldorf,
                      Dusseldorf to Munich,
                      Munich to some abstract place in Namibia,
                      Abstract place in Namibia to Cape Town some 27 hours later!

                      I must have really upset someone in that department!
                      At least I get a night to rest (on the lash) in Cape town before joining,
                      See you's in six weeks! Good Fishing.
