A wise man says: A bad Day (boat)fishing is better than a good day in the office !!
Right he is!
I would add, fishing is all about the experience, nature and company...
...and yes, I am the kind of boat angler who likes a laugh as much as a good catch...
Since I bought my boat a few years ago, there is one thing I really miss...going out with most of my mates...my boat is simply too small to take more than 3.
So the plan was quickly made...hire the local charter boat and therefore I asked my friend Peter for an up tiding charter.
Since I repeatedly out fished the poor Peter, he readily accepted and offered me a huge discount (probably hoping to learn a few tricks lol)
I also asked Andy Rutherford, of Rutherfords Angling in Roker, if he would sponsor a few prices, he donated an amazing brand new 2015 Fladen Maxximus solid carbon....WOW
And after a small technical delay....Peter first needed to dive for some bait underneath his boat ...we headed North.
We were a bunch of a very mixed grill....some colleagues from work, some north and some south of Tyne...some old....some young...some experienced...some beginners....and even a woman (The skippers missus!!)----did we not know that bananas and women are bad bad luck on a fishing boat !!!!!
We fished the flood tide and were totally optimistic after recent catches.
The Old Man at Sea (it did not rain!)
First fish (and the 20£ Rutherford voucher) went to Mike for a tiddler cod
Mmmmh...thats sorted...next competition is for the biggest number (we wanted to discourage anglers keeping small fish for a heaviest bag)
....but the day proved very very difficult. Crewman Mick threw massive baits downside and the few cod seem to like it. Mick ended with 11 fish and shared the -Most Fish Price (20£ Rutherford vouchers each) with Mike, who also had 11.
Only the one and most important winner was to be crowned and despite Mick being the favourite, young Chetan on his first ever up tiding trip won the contest ---not a monster by any standards---but who cares---4 1/2lb did the job !!
....and we all instantly knew....the guy is hooked for life !!!
Needless to mention that I (competing as a team with the Skipper Peter !!) managed exactly ONE WHITING YEAH!!!
Right he is!
