me and my son joined crew of 11 on this boat on 4.7.2011. what a boat it is shame bwt everything else we paid 40 quid each and were expecting for that price to be fishing wrecks. spent first hour fishing for mackarel as you would and as me and my son did thinking that these were for the wrecks but no never fished any only drift fishing never got stuck on bottom and never lost any tackle all day .later moved to rougher ground hour before we were due to return home but was waste time as there was 15 mph se winds and was impossible to hold bottom as forecast predicted.we would not have gone but were told that if we cancelled we still would have had to pay the 80 pounds to skipper unless he had cancelled trip.think lads from durham who got soacked 2 are going to comment also as were not well pleased as not nice getting of boat soaking wet and driving new car . know all ground of hartlepool my self as have been fishing it for 25 years plus and won hartlepool small boats championships wen 1200 fished it as can see on my pics. getting new boat in few weeks and will be fishing them wrecks of skinngrove had huge catches of cod and ling to 24 pound and pollock to 15 pound from them . shame the lads didnt have a sweep as had heaviest bag of fish on the boat biggest was a 10lb ling and my largest cod was 6lb.until next time tight lines everyone.

1st of all can i just say we had lads on boat who can not wait to come back and fish on the famous
2nd,when fishing on a boat always bring your water proofs (common sense)
3rd the skipper decides where to fish (weather, tide, swell, ect)
4th when you fish a charter boat pick your place on boat and fish there all day (as all lads get fair drift,if good marks showing the skipper might do same drift twice the turn boat twice)
5th for those that know how to fish you dont put a set and a half of macky feathers on (loaded with frozen prawns when fresh macky aboard) when cod fishing as these can not be lifted safely ends up in skippers hand
6th we would never fish next to a working trawler you can tell when they are fishing they have there nets down
yes the weather was against (afternoon) us and for those that fish for cod had canny fish, the guy in the right hand corner (who had never used a shad had plenty of cod as did other lads on boat,I myself who did not fish a lot looking after the three newbies had a canny box of fish
most lads that got off boat said thank you apart from two.
Good luck with your boat and your wrecking, seems your the man
with 25 years exp

The skipper knows best how to carry out the days fishing, if the drift is too fast then he will not bother too much with the wrecks because you will lose gear on every drift. ( that's if you can hit the wreck ). as you were fishing for mackerel, dont you think the skipper would have been watching the wind and tide and ready to adjust the tactics to suit the conditions. I'm sure you still had a good day Bill. Just to add most of the wrecks lie parallel to the coast, so if you get any easterly or westerly winds with any strength you cross the wrecks too quickly and lose a lot of gear.

famous hartlepool
With all your angling and boat handling knowledge you should be ashamed to write such a report.Hope your new boat goes well for you as i dont think many charter boat skippers will want you on board in the future. As for charging 40 quid have you bought any cod lately

not all the big fish have come from wrecks mate my brother did get his cod that whent over 18lb from a inshore mark only 2 mile out and the last timei was out (last weekend) we fished a bit ground about 2 mile again and we had to come in early as the box was filled full of 6lb plus fish we all have our frustating trips on the boat but the skipper always trys to work his socks off to find the fish at the end of the day fishing is a gamble i used to have trips away and only get 2 fish and i was still happy as you cant beat being out in the open sea plus the best wreckin months are aug and septCod machine
