  • Growler 6th of July.

    It was a should I chance it or not trip off, I checked the weather at least 100times yesterday and it was borderline to say the least. The ultimate factor that made my mind up was the early rise with heartburn from last nights shredded chilli beef from the chinese!
    I arrived at the marina about half five and it was tipping it down. I thought if it's too bad I will head back after the piers. Out of the piers and it was do-able but just. A real snotty confused sea.
    The first two wrecks I fished were devoid of any life at all and after a few drifts on each I was starting to wonder if rennies and back to bed may have been the better option!
    Wreck three was full of three to five pounders so justified the drive up. I had twenty cod and two good coalies with one nudging two and a half pound. I kept a dozen cod and returned eight,the coalies were returned as well.

    I headed in out of the swell which was now moderating with the ebb tide easing and was all cleaned up and at my Mam's for some scran at 12! On the way up the harbour was a different vessel than the usual trawlers;

    All fish today were on shads, coulour didn't matter, either retreived or bounced, the cod just wolfed them! It does make for an easier job when cleaning up with no mackeral scales and guts everywhere!

    On a sidenote for you Arthur there is a reiver with a 60hp two stroke tohatsu on along from me!

    Don't know when I will be off next as I am poised by the batphone awaiting the call to return to work for six weeks!
    Never mind!

    Graham.

    the big vessel is dutch allegedly and is a "correction" boat its currently full of teen lasses so the story goes i would have thought they would have anchored off shore

        Canny Little Trip Out, That vessel looks very similar to the one thats been moored up at North Shields fish quay. Flying a Dutch flag I think?
        Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught

                If I get out before you and catch a 15lb cod with your name on it I'll put it straight back then , if on the other hand I catch one with no name on it , I'll write your name on it and put it back then pm you and tell you where it is .
                If I catch anything bigger than that............ it's mine
