Been a funny old day today, started of poor, got very good, then not so good, but all turned out well after a pint of cider.
We headed out about 7 this morning into a big but lazy swell, being well spaced sets the big swell was no bother to us and the wind stay off all day so a lovely day to be out in the sun.
Our first few marks turned out empty apart from mackeral, this continued for almost 3 hours and I was starting to think we wouldn't see a cod.
Then we decided to try a spot we've been wanting to try but never had the good weather lately, so off we steamed.
Great decision, we were into fish straight away andit continued for the rest of the day
Lost count of the amount of 4-5 lb codling we put back, but had a few better fish and doubles mixed into the day aswell.
Biggest fish for me a 16lb ling, then a 12lb cod. Codfathers father also got into the doubles aswell with both ling and cod. So a good catch alround.
Think the 4-5 lb codling impressed me the most today tho, fighting like hell all the way up.
Then the bit of bad news came a phone call from my wife, saying the car was bellowing smoke out when driving along, bit of a worry as it's an old discovery, V8 duel fuel with LPG and petrol slung underneath it
So we headed back a bit early after she parked it up and got a lift home.
Me relieved to finally get a codling aboard
Many more followed
A nice supprise
First double of 12 lb
A double for codfathers father
16 lb ling
As for the car, turned out to be just a burst water pipe spraying water onto the hot engine, (steam, not smoke). I bodged a temp repair to get it the 2 mile home, till I get new pipe.
So not that bad after all
