Another late start today, i didnt plan on going with the predicted forecast, but after getting up this morning and seeing no wind, but with a slightly lumpy sea i decided to phone about and see what crew i could muster, after a short call to Deano we agreed to head out around 10am.
Got to our first mark i was straight into a fish after a nice little fight the first fish of the day was aboard with a 9lber in the box, next few drifts produced a few smaller 3-4lb fish, then Dean hooked into one and after getting it up off the bottom muttered the words " this is a doubler" well after a slow retrieve and a few gasps as the fish fought hard we saw some colour then a beast breaking the surface, weighing in at 17 and a half lbs, {weighed later at home at 17.2lbs}. Well done mate a cracking fish.
Next drops down produced yet another doubler for Dean, this time around 12lbs, The big fish were giving me a miss today, between hooking up on the wreck and a few fish getting off it wasnt to be my day. We plugged away for a bit longer with patches of fish then nothing.
We bumped into Chris {Jester} and had a bit craic , both boats had a few fish coming aboard, but after it went slow again we decided to try a wreck a bit closer in before heading home.
First drift on our last wreck of the day produced nothing so tried a slightly different drift next time and we were into fish again, had 5-6 drifts and we managed another 7-8 fish around the 5-7lb mark.
That was enough for us today, we ended up with 30 codlings and the same number of mackerel. Again another rather short trip {under 4 hours}, but a more than respectable return for our efforts.
1 Rather amusing moment was after the poor start i had, i finally hooked into something really good i got a good 10-12 turns on the reel and i felt like a good doubler, it popped off the hook, i yelled T**t, then all we heard was a snigger coming from the jester about 20 feet away.
Hope the fishing was as good for you mate as it was for us.
Sorry i posted this before seeing Deans report so this one can be deleted if the mods so wish.
