Thursday 2/06
Arranged with Jpster the night before that thursday was gonna be the best day of the week weather wise so we agreed to a modest 7 am start.
When we got to the marina there was still a fair breeze, but with it forecast to drop off we set away towards our first wreck.
Fishing was very slow, i managed to hook into something decent only for it to come off, but on closer inspection my 30lb length between my boom and shad had been snapped through.
We plodded on for another hour or so only picking up the 1 fish, so i decided to fish some hard ground and what a decision that turned out to be, we started with a few tigers coming aboard then the codling showed up.
Sometimes double shots
Then treble shots
Fishing continued like this for the next hour or so, we were pulling full strings of mackerel in, so we had to change to bigger lures to try put them off so we could get down to the cod, i was using shads from this point and John with the muppets and a jigger.
Soon as we were hitting bottom we were into fish, it was frantic.
In little over an hour we had completly filled our box and the deck of the boat was swimming with fish.
In the end just about everything we were catching was going back, we had our fill and didnt want to be too greedy.
we had around 60 codling, with 40 keepers. Well over 60-70 mackerel, of which we kept just 20 and a solitary ling.
This was the first time ive used my camera on my boat, i always have visions of me stumbling and dropping it over the side so i tend not to get it out.
here is a couple more pics of the sea state which you can see is glorious.
Friday 3/6
Different crew member this time with my cousin coming along for the ride with a hope of a repeat of the day before, this was always going to be difficult and so it proved to be after getting away around 9 am we had probably got away too late.
We tried 3 wrecks with nothing to show, i kept hooking into fish only to get them half way up and they managed to escape my clutches, this was the story for every wreck i visited and became a little frustrated with the tackle losses as well.
We packed up and headed to the ground that had been productive for me the day before and what a contrast to the day before, long drifts with zilch, not even mackerel.
We plodded n for a further 2 hours and only managed 3 codling 1 pollack and 20 mackerel, compared to the day before this was disastrous, but thats why its called fishing and not catching.
