  • "Grace" Saturday 28th May

We locked out at 7am determined that the elements would not beat us but the wind steadily freshened to a howling, nasty, north westerly that had us cutting short our normal weekend session.
We started by picking up a dozen Mackerel for bait just north of the piers and heading for the ground off St Mary's. We threw out the drogue and fished a flowing trace which proved a decent strategy and we landed six keepers on the first drift. So far so good but the wind picked up and the next couple of drifts were a real chew with no more additions to the fishbox.
We dropped anchor and immediately caught another six decent fish but in a very short time we and everything else in the boat was being tossed about and the decision was made to run for home.
We got the impression that there were lots of fish for the taking if conditions had been better but on the day I feel we were rather fortunate to get a dozen decent Cod so lets hope they are still there on Monday (if the wind ever stops blowing)

I think you got it spot on, lots of fish "if" the weather improves.

Nice1 anyway on the catch, if your out Monday prob see you as just rough ground at the can with family all day.

Aye well done, not the best of conditions out there Saturday, however the ride back in from 3 mile or so was excellent .......

agree with the view that theres probably a lot of fish around if only the drift would slow a little it's so hard
to stop the lines streaming and keep bottom (other than double the lead and quadruple the cost of losses

Well done on the catch, ashore the wind was bad, I wouldn’t like to have been out in it. What size drogue do you use, I’ve only ever used them on small boats when fly fishing, but the idea could work well on a bigger one at sea.

Good luck tomorrow, we’ll be out there too if the forecast holds.
