  • Amble Sunday 22nd

Left marina 7.30 and tried Bondicarr and back up to the Island for couple of hours. Wind was howling with canny showers to go with it. Ended up with 22cod (1.1/2lb to 4lb) and a couple of mackerel at last.Missed getting in the marina so the boat is down the harbour and thefish are in the cool box on ice - should stiffen up nicely to fillet this afternoon. All in all a hard shift, just need that wind to ease, as Richie said in another post I think we've had about a month of it now.

Just finished filleting - what a difference when they've been chilled a couple of hours, like filleting winter cod.Watching the weather now for the rest of the week, might get some mackerel!. The gannets were going well this morning, don't know how they can see through the chop, maybe a good sign.

Great catch in poor conditions .Col i thought you would have had the paravanes out for pollock, with the wind so strong you wouldnt have needed the engine running.

Tried paravanes last sunday for nowt, still early, they seem to appear about the same time as the mackerel and the best ones are usually July and August. With a 2 knot drift today it was just one knot from the ideal speed, just the small problem of being able to stand up.
