We did not venture out on Saturday but on Sunday, although still very breezy, the wind was a tad more friendly so we decided to give it a try on the ground just off St Mary's. It was blowing hard but we threw out the drogue which slowed us down sufficiently to fish a flowing trace and we steadily picked up Codling on every drift.
We kept a dozen pan sized Cod from the first two drifts and thereafter returned every fish for the rest of the day. We must have landed close to 70 fish between 2lb to 4lb and dozens more undersized Codling that fought like fish twice their size.
We had prawns, mackerel strip, squid, rag and crab but it did not seem to matter what bait we used. The drift was quick and I guess they just grabbed anything that came along without thinking too much about it.
