Phoed Barny last night an said we were fishing today , he was buzzin Went to pick him up this morning at 7.30 and he was still buzzin , but asked me about the wind ....... "What wind ?" I answered and put him in the car and off to the marina.
It was blowing a bit when we got there so we put the kettle on and sat a while having a brew and waiting for the cill to cover with enough water to get out (that was my excuse anyway )
Soon I got bored with waiting an we set off down the river at about 9 oclock , once out of the piers it was evident it was going to be a test of our balance for the rest of the day but we headed south regardless.
Warlord was on her way to the skeers and we crossed behind her and watched her on her way as we set about working out the drift over the northern hill , it was fast
First drift was all to pot and went no where near where I wanted and I don't think we had a take , but working out from the track on the plotter I set the boat up to drift where I wanted and hey presto , cod galore
Barny was in his element , he couldn't believe how many fish we were catching and the smile on his face had me in stitches all day.
I fished shds all day , barney fished baited rigs most of the day , I was besting him 2-1 , later in the day he messed hgis terminal tackle up and I passed him my rod with the shad on and showed him how to fish it ...... two drops and two fish later he's telling me not to put a rig on his rod but set it up with a shad , he's now 100% converted.
The fish were piling up and so was the wind and the waves , but every time one of our rods bent into another fish we looked at each other and said "wind? what wind? " and giggled like little school girls.
It was a terrific day out , very tiring in the conditions , but having barny along for company was a pleasant change , I like fishing alone , but I enjoyed today immensly.
Wicked Jack steamed up towards us and shouted over if we were catching , they were too within a few minutes .
barney sorting his rigs
the fish were building up
he was really enjoyin himself
the last pic (assuming they are here at all ) is the reason we had to make little detour on the way home from a great day out.
