  • Beehive Breakaways comp - 01-11-2015

Fished the winter breakaways comp last Sunday on board the Macer G with skipper Stevie B and regular crew John, Peter, Barry and Doddsy. Left the river at 8.00am on a flat calm sea with the sun rising and the winter jackets soon coming off. Steven stopped off at the first wreck, 4 mile off and we dropped our lines with a variety of baits, rigs to test the water so to say, cod and ling taking all including a double ling for John and one around the 10lb mark. I had a bag of 25lb by 10.30am with a cod pb of 8.5lb then snapped my rod! Luckily enough the Mistress wasn't too far away as we still had 2.5hrs of the comp left and with a man down we needed another rod. The Mistress lads obliged but unfortunately I didn't add to my tally. Thanks all the same lads The fish kept coming for the rest of the crew and John outshone us all with a personal bag of close to 65lb. Other crew members all chipped in with bags of 20lb plus. Back on the quay by 1pm for the overall weigh in and the filleting off (not by me may I add). Think the Macer G won the comp with heaviest fish, heaviest individual bag and heaviest boat average although I'm not sure what that was? All in all a great morning out and a massive thanks to all the crew on board for their hospitality, advice and great banter as ever! Got a few pics but Steve B said he would upload them. Cheers
