I left Royal Quays at 8am with visibility no more than 100m and after picking up Alan and John we headed North to our favourite rough ground marks off Blyth. We were expecting a quiet start during slack water but from the first drop we were into fish. Alan and I were using shads which we "hopped" a few feet from the bottom and John was using prawn baited hokeyes. It didn't seem to matter what lure or technique was used because the fish were in the fettle for feeding and we reached our quota within an hour or so. We fished until shortly after 2pm and returned dozens of Cod between 3lb to 10lb before heading back in time for my dentists appointment at 5pm.
Despite the Tyne running very dirty, the water a mile off Blyth is gin clear and I feel the clarity is a massive factor in this late season Cod bonanza.
