  • 5 star north star

sailed at 7 am with 8 anglers skipper and crewman stevie, who didnt know it then, but there was a busy day ahead for him

heavy drizzle and a flat sea was the situation, but signs of brightness were around, and indeed by about 9am this was the case, drizzle gone and a light breeze.

we were fishing by about 08 50 and by 9 on cue with the improving weather there was a ling weighing in at over 12lb on the deck

note too long after that a nice cod at over 10lb was in my bucket(foot note for the doubter on the site these weights were not magnified by the skipper or any one else)

and so it continued folks bring some very good fish in,many in the 7--8 and quite a few in the 4--6lb range.

the recent sucess of the hartlepool ripper was not in evidence today,baited(mackarel/squid) hokkis or daylights doing the damage

then we lost the fish with the catch rate dropping dramatically for best part of 2 hrs

then someone chucks in a shad BANG fish on.

resulting in anglers digging about for orange shads,me included, and indeed had my first decent shad caught cod happy days.

wind and tide are now here the plan to stop at a couple of wrecks on the way home was shelved,so we stayed on the ground a while longer shadding away to our hearts content

all good things end and soon it was homeward we were bound, with the usual bustle of gutting filleting taking up most of the journey.

all in aal a cracker of a day, thanks jim and stevie must mention too,met 2 cracking lads from shiney row,and 5 other gooduns from haswell, never a wrong word aal day and plenty craic

exactly what a day afloat should be,and certainly one of my best for a while

Congrats on the double figure cod - still waiting on my first!
Think I saw yous coming back in today whilst I was mackie bashing
Bit more settled now into my new job so think I'll book a few weekenders - if I can get a space of course with Jim doing so well recently!
