After many weeks of "Hot Spots" and "Manic" sessions I suppose we had to hit a slow day eventually
Not all doom and gloom of course just a bit down from some of the previous fantastic sessions this season.
With Steve at work and Tony "Out of Town" Jonny was drafted in for his second session on Slinky Kate .... as stand in "Cabin Boy", bearing in mind his first session on a "manic" day left him completely physically and mentally drained ... not so today more kinda "washed up"
Set off for a 5.00am meet-up to get as much of the tide as possible and to beat the forecasted blow up of the wind at lunch time (and to get back for the football as well of course).
Strange start at marina today as this was the first time to my knowledge that I've ever been locked out "UPHILL" into the river ..... The tide was so big and almost at its top time wise, that the marina was full to bursting with all the equipment at its top limit, all the usual steps down to the river were parallel and boats tied up in waiting area were as high as the car park .... odd!
Off we went (in the dark, as its getting ever so much darker so much sooner) along the river to find a guiding light in front of us.... another boat ..... Of course there's only one boat this could have been ........ on a mission like ourselves and so early ......... Yup , "good morning Shady".
Stopped off together just outside piers but after 10-15 mins it was obvious there was nothing to be had ....
Then the mist came, then the rain came ........... awful as it was still dark as well .....
Off to a few known wreck hits (as did Shady) but all to no avail ..... the fish were gone ..... or maybe it was just the big tide, and wet conditions.
Got to be honest, you do kinda question your judgement at 6.00am on an autumn morning in the dark, in the rain with not even a bite to inspire you ........
Still, Slinky and Shady went our seperate ways in search of the quarry .....
Eventually , after the rain held off (for a while) and the sun eventually almost peeked out of the clouds Jonny struck into the first (proper) fish of the day, a small ling. I say "proper" here because I have omitted to explain that we boated a number of whiting and mackerel but didnt see to count them as "proper".
Mackerel as bait was like draft beer on tap get what you want but only when you want it (you wouldn't get yourself 12 pints in at the start of the night would you? hmmm well, Ill hold on that one )
As time went by and wrecks too we both eventually got into a couple of fish each so at least our blushes were spared ....
Tally for the day was only 4 keepers , all Ling ..... although as mentioned there was a lot of small fish caught and returned.....
All in all a difficult days fishing , we all have them .... but good for our guest jonny to see both sides of the coin now on Slinky Kate, a day of feast, but/and then a day of famine ... (but not blank I'm pleased to say) ......
Tony, you picked a good day to be away mate ......
As ever a few pics of the day ......
not a sunrise I`m afraid , I'm not even sure if the sun rose today ! .....
Jonny into first "Proper" fish of the day .....
Myself with a very small codling .....
And a little un on its way back to grow bigger ....
Jonny into a bit bigger Ling ....
and a ling for myself ......
Not a big catch, and rain with a bit wind with mist with darkness .......... but I wouldn't swap it for the world ......
cheers for the day Jonny ....
thanks all for reading ...
