Cooler Boxes

With the excellent fish we have been having I thought I'd invest in a cooler box.
I've gone for a Coleman 70 litre box which is supposed to keep ice for 5 days, although I'm sceptical, if it last for 10 hours I'll be happy. They are available from United British Caravans on Sandy Lane Gosforth for £59. Whilst there are probably better deals around with a bit more research I wanted to give it a go on Wednesday when I'm hoping for a bumper days fishing........... god willing etc

Those boxes do hold ice for a long time (days). We use the four foot ones from costco.The best way to keep the fish is to mix a little ice with salt water, this allows the fish to swallow the chilled water and stops the core temp rising, really good for mackerel.Makes them easier to fillet and the flesh is in A1 condition.A good investment - hope you fill it up.

we have a big cooler box which we take away on compos. Its a big thing which has ice blocks inside and its right what they say it lasts ages.

I use my own cooler box when fishing-nowt flash just a bog standard onee with ice blocks inside. Usually chop heads off fish and fillet when i get home.Saves car getting smelly as old rigs also go in.

if you freeze plastic pop bottles full of water you will keep the temperature down for a long time and you will always have a cold drink
always keep the water off the ice that has melted in the cool box as it helps to keep it cool jeff

Some nice tips

Thanks for the tips. I used the box yesterday and the only down side I can see is toting the thing around when it's full, the handles are on the flimsy side.

I bought a sceirra salmon & bass bag £11 off ebay bloody massive & folds up to nothing took a bog standard cool box filled with frozen bottles & put half in the bag when we got there it held all our fish which amounted to a lot as there were four of us i could hardly lift the bag but they are great things just for the day
