Aye Norman, Hard going yesterday but good company, and a bit of craic with a few fish as well, couldn't ask for more.

On the subject of Pirks, I find if the hooks are in the lighter end, when you are working the pirk, as it drops back to the sea bed, the lighter end comes up and latches on to the rig body. When i make them ( usually tubular ones ) i find out which end to put the hooks by balancing them to see which way they tip. Just my opinion.

Could be a big debate there Norman, when i saw your pics i thought i was rigging the treble at the wrong end. On looking at my mould, which is the same shape as yours, the wire eye at the head end is'nt central is offset, similar to a leadhead, so for my mould you're probably right and the treble should be at the tail end.
I would think if you were jigging with the treble on the tail end, on the way down the weight of the head would overtake the tail ( Like throwing a dart in the air ) and may cause the treble to foul the line on a slow drift, fast drift probably wouldnt be a problem.....What do you think......Either way good debate......

one h--l of a workshop norm wish i had. any how back to the pirks,treble on heavy end for me,and if fishing over ground an extra treble on the light end,attached by about 3 inches of mono

Thanks for all the comments folks, Jim, good idea about the line and treble hook up but I seem to get that now on Norweigans rigged the normal way. I think (Newton, gravity and all that) that since the pirk is all of one material and same density each end that it wouldnt show any tendancies to drop one way or another , other than via aerodynamical shape. What we need is a big tank we can throw them in and watch ..... do you think they'd let us borrow "The Deep" at Hull?

hmmm thinking ...... maybe on the head end if theres a bit of wood skewered onto the loop prior to casting then that would give it slight bouyancy (less dense) at that end and cause it to drop treble first (treble on tail) just a thought.
Haha much more of this and they'll be floats ....

bear in mind the only portal to the outside world for the run in was the area wiped by the windscreen wiper
