  • Day out with Big Sean - Ladies Day!

Today was our last day in the North East and a trip out with Big Sean was the denouement of our holiday, but would we in fact get out? Sean called a 9am start and said that we might have to stay inshore until the wind died down.

We arrived at the Hartlepool Yacht Club at 830am and met up with him and Lisa, it was lovely to meet you both, it really was. We boarded his boat, took in the sights and then headed out past the headland.

It was indeed a bit bouncy, but we headed out about 3 miles and had a few drifts. Lisa, Lynn and I were into a cod each, which made us feel quite positive for the day ahead.

However the drift got too fast and the decision was to head in nearer the shore, which gave me time to take a photo of Lynn with her first Cod.

Nearer the shore at anchor, provided a Whiting fest, with the odd Mackerel and Pouting thrown in and strangely a Dogfish for Lynn! We were all waiting and hoping the wind would die down and allow us to get to the wreck that Sean had wanted to take us to since we first sailed.

After a couple of hours Sean told us all to sit down, as we were moving. The weather hadn't noticeably improved, so I expected another close in mark, but no, we were off out towards the horizon, full speed ahead. It was a bumpy ride that's for sure, but after about a 6 mile steam we arrived at Sean's appointed mark and as we came to halt I was surprised that the wind had died right down.

The sea was flat, the drift slow and we were into fish straight away. Well when say "we" I mean Lisa, Lynn and Sean!

I was having a nightmare, trying to turn bites into catches. I missed at least five and then had a really good fish on until it just came into sight from the depths, only to see it spit the hook and return to the deep! There must have been about 8 fish boated, while I had diddly squat! The girls were on fire and Sean had a few too. He might not have been catching at the rate of the girls but at least he had the excuse of skippering the boat and sorting out the ladies. Me? I was only good for ballast at that point!

In frustration I changed my hook, as I was convinced Lynn had filed the point off and finally I was rewarded with a good Cod.

Probably not the biggest of the day(I think that honour went to Lisa) but certainly bigger than anything Lynn caught! A few more good Cod were boated before the wind reared it's ugly head again and we headed for the haven of the marina.

So it was Ladies Day today and Lynn and I have had to accept an honourable draw.

Thanks so much to Sean and Lisa for a brilliant day out.

Until next year North East - Thanks it's been a blast!!

Where's the other pictures you took of my big Cod and the one when I caught two at once!?

Great day on the water with Sean and Lisa, thanks so much for your hospitality and giving me the opportunity to draw with Kayos!

Back home now and severely depressed as it's 50 weeks before we are back. Unless of course we come at Easter!
