Ha ha! I must admit , even though I come from a coarse fishing background where everything gets put back , I don't put many cod back , I try and put ling back if they will go and I now always put pollock back but on the couple of occasions this season I've put a lot of cod back it was because I had so many I couldn't bear the thought of filleting them all but still wanted to carry on fishing in the hope of catching a monster.
I've brought a hell of a lot of cod home this year and havn't eaten one yet , I've eaten a coaly though . None of the fish i bring home gets wasted , it all gets shared around friends and family and is much appreciated , everyone reckons it tastes far better than anything they buy , but that might be down to the fact that it's free .
I did wonder when I first started boat fishing if it was a good idea for all these small boats to be going out and taking so many cod every weekend , but I'm coming round to the idea that it's not rod and line anglers the cod population needs to fear , we can't get out often or far enough to really affect the stocks.
Every little helps though I suppose , so if anyone wants to put them back for another day (or another boat to catch ) good on them.

no Cod ever gets wasted by me - I'll be doing the rounds tomorrow in fact

I like to trade with it - gave some to my mates mum who gave me some home made tartare sauce in return and my supervisors husband does a mean Corned Beef and Potato slab (always about food with me ) and I know I've got a jar of chilli chutney waiting for me off a girl I went to school with too...
