Decided to have a few hours leave as all week the weather was looking good with smooth sea forecast sunny with odd shower and light winds...errrrarrr wrong they all are.
Got down the marina at 9.30am and straight out the locks, heading up river you could see the white water hitting the south pier from a north east roll. Got out to sea and it was choppy to say the least with stiff North west wind blowing but not to waste a day i set about the first mission of the day with my ma again on board as "crew" and that was mackerel, straight away 4-5 at a time everytime so within about 3 mins we had 20+ and set off to some wrecks about 7 miles off.
Drift was not the best with wind and tide together but we made the most of it and plugged away trying 4 wrecks within the first 1 hour, By lunch time i was 4-1 down with my ma taken 4 ling from 4lb upto 9lb and me 1 cod about 5lb.
Towards 1pm the drift got silly and touched on 2k so we headed close in to St Marrys with the crab. I was suprised not to catch anything other than coalie there and 1 very big Gray Gurnard. So when the tide dropped off we went back out to a 6 miler and plugged away with me having a good spell with 3 more cod and 2 ling and my ma taken 1 ling and 1 cod nothing over 6lb thou.
We landed a few more from a close in wreck on the way home and headed in at 5pm with a total catch of..
9 cod
7 ling
1 gernard
coalie
pouting
mackerel
Not loads today but nice to be at sea.
