Decided to have a few hours leave as all week the weather was looking good with smooth sea forecast sunny with odd shower and light winds...errrrarrr wrong they all are.

Got down the marina at 9.30am and straight out the locks, heading up river you could see the white water hitting the south pier from a north east roll. Got out to sea and it was choppy to say the least with stiff North west wind blowing but not to waste a day i set about the first mission of the day with my ma again on board as "crew" and that was mackerel, straight away 4-5 at a time everytime so within about 3 mins we had 20+ and set off to some wrecks about 7 miles off.

Drift was not the best with wind and tide together but we made the most of it and plugged away trying 4 wrecks within the first 1 hour, By lunch time i was 4-1 down with my ma taken 4 ling from 4lb upto 9lb and me 1 cod about 5lb.

Towards 1pm the drift got silly and touched on 2k so we headed close in to St Marrys with the crab. I was suprised not to catch anything other than coalie there and 1 very big Gray Gurnard. So when the tide dropped off we went back out to a 6 miler and plugged away with me having a good spell with 3 more cod and 2 ling and my ma taken 1 ling and 1 cod nothing over 6lb thou.

We landed a few more from a close in wreck on the way home and headed in at 5pm with a total catch of..

    9 cod
    7 ling
    1 gernard
    coalie
    pouting
    mackerel

Not loads today but nice to be at sea.

It looks like you've got a good crew there.

The sea looked to have calmed through the day and should be even better tomorrow if you still have time off.

Going to go on the pier on Friday for a change but the Sat wil be the next boat trip and if it is flat then its 80ltrs of fuel on board and the trip we have talked about so many time son this forum...the grave yard. Will be about 6 hours of travel in the day and may or may nto be worth it but hay you dont try you dont get....if not flat the there is always the other wrecks for the odd double

Good luck with that, it's a trip I fancy trying some time....but not yet and I'm not convinced the weather on Sat will be up for it. Either way, I'd want to get a spare tank of fuel in addition to the 100L the boat will hold.

Weather not right for that type of trip, i often go out 16-18 miles out and have already been 21 miles out this year, i have not needed to carry any extra than 12 ltrs on top of a full fuel tank so far but i never open the boat up to it's max revs 3200 for 12k i often keep it at 2400rpm as the fuel consumption is half for 800rpm less, as time is not often a issue an extra 20mins on a 25 mile trip is not a problem with me.

I have still not seen you out there yet apart from the Ian Woods comp day, be nice to share a wreck one day and have abit crack.

I’d been away for a couple of weeks holiday getting back on the Sat before the comp.. After that I’ve had a couple of sessions chasing salmon and haven’t had a chance to get out on the boat.
Hopefully that will change if the weather is OK tomorrow for a short trip with the family and a longer day out on Sunday. It may even involve an early start on Sunday. I’ll keep an eye out for you and give you a shout on ch6, you can point me in the direction of the fish.

My engine max's out at 2600RPM so I usually run at 2400. The step from 2000 to 2400RPM gives a disproportionate boost in boat speed but I should work out the optimum speed some time. The published data show the price of extra speed aint pretty.
