  • Stingray 15.08.10 4hr sesh

Woke up at 9am and looked out the window to see no wind at all, ran yes ran to the pc and turned it on...sea state Mod to slight then checked the web cam's nothing looking great but then what else was i going to do today...so down the marina by 10.30am.

Headed out and was met by a 4-6ft rolling river mouth and i thought yep pushed it once to many this year but thought i may as well go to the pier ends and land a few amckerel for the winter..

Got to the pier end and past the bar, you would think i had been transported to some other area, no rollers and a nice clam sea. Drifted around close taken nothing at all at the normal marks, mind i could nto see my pirk 2ft under the boat the water was so dirty.

Headed abit further off and was into cod on the first drift, followed by 2 whiting and at last a full house of mackerel, moved around to a couple wrecks abit further off and thought my luck was in, 1st drop 2 cod, 2nd drop 2 cod i could see that day of June repeating it's self but after 30mins and many drifts laler i ony landed a further 3 more cod but all 4-6lb a cracking fresh run stamp.

Decided to try a banker from last season that has yet to produce a fish this year and still has not after 4 drifts and 2 lost sets of gear so moved once again to a 7 miler and hit the 1st ling of the day at 7lb.

Then i landed 2 more cod followed by a cracking bite from a 10lb 3oz ling, only my 2nd double ling of the season....tried for a pic but camera as dead as could be (battery) had a few more drifts with bait but never got anymore and just 1 cod on the twin tails.

I could smell my Sunday lunch cooking so off i went with a nice 4hr total of...

    Stingray

    14 cod 2-6lb
    2 ling 7-10lb
    2 pouting
    2 whiting
    1 coalie
    20+ mackerel

Some nice fish there Richie , the spur of the moment trips are always the most satisfying, you would'nt think it would drop off so much, compared to yesterday. How far out did you get before the waer cleared enough for the pirks ?

3 to 4 miles before it cleared and when it cleared the mackerel just all over.

You'll be needing your onboard photographer, the photo's don't do your catch justice without you holding them with that infamous smile on your face .
On Wednesday I'll see if I can spot you and take a few snaps from the air, may be hard to make out Stingray (need a bigger boat )from thousands of feet up.
