Before I write this catch report can I just say that Lynn and I have been overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity of some private boat owners on NESA who have offered to take us out on their boats. Without this we would have been consigned to waiting until day 8 of our 14 day holiday to get out on a charter. So we are eternally grateful guys and what a brilliant advert for the site you are.
So today Stephen of Macer g invited us out, 430am at the Quays and as he said, good practice for the even earlier start still to come with Norman! It was a beautiful morning(well it was when it got light!) and Stephen picked us up as promised.
On the boat today was his co-owner Stevie, Billy, another guy whose name I forget(sorry) and birthday boy KeithB.
We headed off out the piers for some Mackerel, but they were scarce, in fact, non existant! So off to a wreck we went and into the fishing. The weather was amazing, flat seas and some great laughs with the guys. I was soon into a fish and was gobsmacked to see it was a Wolfish(actually Keith told me what is was!). I stood back when it was landed and let Steven deal with it.
Lynn and I were having a bit of a tackle mare but we stuck with it and soon I was into two good size cod.
So Mark 3, Lynn nil, zip, nada, zilch, diddly squat!!
Anyway my tackle mare continued and I lost all my mono, but Keith helped me get my braid on the reel and off I went fishing again. Meantime Lynn had taken 2 cod(small) and then a better one, but smaller than my best. Stevie was giving her way to much help with bait and rigs and sure enough his help paid off and she landed this Ling!
Not to be outdone I landed another good cod. As you can see from the photo, I haven't mastered the arms stretched out method, plus I look a bit glum and I have a shocking double chin!
Later on I mastered the art, but could do nothing about the double chin!
Just to prove Lynn and I sometimes do get on, here is a wee friendly photo.
Once again, huge thanks to the Macer g crew, we loved our day.
