  • Seahouse - unity

Well went out for a trip on Unity today but once at our mark after 10 mins we had to come in. Lightening stopped play-now theres a first for me. Mind if its no good when your fly fishing its no good when you fishing from a boat .skipper decided carbon pointing to the sky was not wise (i agreed) so it was back in. Mind i had a cod about 2-1/2 pound so i did,nt el-blank. Filleted on the boat and gave it to a young un to cheer him up.

some people will let anything put them off, what's wrong with waving a long carbon rod around in a lightening storm. Remeber once watching one when fishing from Bathing Pool Skeer, what a wondeful sight, then it dawned on me, I soon put my rod down.

An honest observation and there'll be many on here remember it .........

about 4 or 5 years ago we had one of our NESA Fun comps , about 6 or 7 boats I remember ............. we went out in glorious sunshine, and came back in decent weather .... but for some time in between the most horrendous thunder and lightening storm came up .......

we tended to go out as a group and all fish the same wreck , then move on and fish another so we were all together, we all witnessed it, the rods were "crackling" and "sizzleing" in the atmospheric conditions so we all had to lie them down on the decks while lightening passed.

ps I think ritchie won that comp as well

              eerie .........

pps I remember Andy Winter was on Slinky and fished all day with no shirt on in the rain, claiming, I`m gonna get wet anyway so I might as well keep the shirt dry

Skipper noticed his mast sizzling-thats when he decided to head for shore. He must have been fed up cos it was like a ton fifty quid down the drain. No one had to pay-but like skip says thats fishing. Most of the people were newby tourists who had never boat fished before. The trip was one of the three hour type.

i was spinning at dunstanburgh a couple of months ago when it was lightning on the other side of the bay so thought it was ok where we were i cast out the spinner and when it was in mid air i felt something all over my body and didnt know what was going on. then when i turned to my mates they were rolling about laughing as when i had cast with the rod in the air i had sparks flying between my legs and they say i was white as ghost. i presume it must of been the static in the air which earthed when i cast out, my mates were still laughing 4 hours later in the car on the way home
